A Quick Backstory: Who is This Guy?
I am a software engineer turned real estate broker in San Jose, CA
My real estate selling career started in 2019, coming from the world of Silicon Valley technology, digital media, and performance marketing, starting in the Internet boom of the 1990s. Being a tech and systems guy at heart, from Day One I saw my calling to innovate how real estate business is done, rather than to be just like everyone else
At one point along the way, this path of innovation brought me to the realization that I must engage in how our highly regulated industry governs itself
A Run Up: Volunteering to Support Our Profession
In 2022, with just 3 years in the business, I started volunteering with my local REALTOR® Association on local political campaigns to help elect candidates supportive of private property rights, and found this cause very rewarding
Soon after, I signed up to serve on Committees of our local and state Associations, as well as our regional MLS. As a new committee member I found the process of shaping the decisions by our industry governing bodies very fascinating, yet riddled with a multitude of “unwritten rules”, which I had no reason to doubt initially
As I delved deeper into MLS & technology policy, it became clear that our industry institutions are not keeping up with the pace of innovation. So, in 2025, I stepped up to prepare a couple whitepapers on protecting our profession from Agentic AI disruption and circulated them among our industry’s top leadership of CAR and NAR
A Breaking Point: Silenced and Banned by CAR in Monterey
Pointing out that our leadership isn’t doing a good job wasn’t received well. Turned out only select few are allowed to shape agenda and decide what may be debated
At 2026 CAR Meeting in Monterey I raised the topics of AI disruption in several public sessions. I brought my Silicon Valley engineering mindset into Association committee rooms to address a massive regulatory blind spot, warning about the existential threats of unlicensed AI platforms and offering a regulatory call to action
The response?
A call came in from a CAR’s senior executive informing me that I was abruptly suspended from my committee roles and physically banned from the conference. My ticket to the 2026 President’s Installation was canceled, and I was deprived of my access to the Board of Directors sessions. I took a deep breath and decided to take my time to gather facts before figuring out how to respond to this gross injustice
A stated reason given to me was “aggressive behavior”. Yet when later on I requested a written explanation of what I did wrong, none was provided. But this isn’t merely a story about abuse of the disciplinary process. It is a story about the breakdown of institutional representation. When independent minds with diverse viewpoints bring urgent warnings regarding industry disruption, and leadership responds by silencing them, the system has fundamentally failed and we must do something about it
The status quo of policy agendas driven by the unwritten rules of seniority is unacceptable and is not in the best interest of our professional members
A Modest Proposal: The Need for Independent Professional Forum
When removed from industry councils, most of our colleagues respond by disengaging and perhaps hoping to be invited back next year by staying quiet
I thought a better idea would be to confront the systemic problems head-on
We can no longer afford to accept status quo as a given and just go along to get along. The lack of proper policy response to the Agentic AI disruption makes it necessary to dispense with a few unwritten rules and ask hard questions. The Real Estate Futures Blueprint is the new independent movement to publicly raise critical issues and challenge questionable decision-making driven by inside politics over expertise, insight, and will of the members. We will be shining the sunlight onto our industry politics and taking these conversations directly to the members
Our goal is to reboot the top-down leadership culture of our industry and bring the actual decision-making powers to all our professionals
